		Portage is a borough located in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, seven miles (11 km) southeast of Ebensburg.
		In 1900, 816 people lived here, and in 1910, there were 2,954 residents.

	1700's Pennsylvania Maps
		One important portage in Pennsylvania was near Erie, going from the lake overland to French Creek which leads to the Allegheny River.
		Another important Indian portage (not used by the French) was part of the Shamokin Trail and went from Emporium on the Sinnemahoning Creek branch of the Susquehanna River north to Port Allegheny on the Allegheny River.
		Pennsylvania and Philadelphia are not named but Swedish and Dutch settlements along the Delaware are indicated, so the map has been copied from a pre-1681 original.
