All Commission policies and activities driving the development of Europe's Information Society - not just this DG - are presented in "Europe's Information Society: Thematic Portal", the first thematic portal launched under the 'EUROPA 2nd generation' initiative.
Bringing the Information Society (IS) closer to people and to businesses by raising the visibility and impact of IS and media policies at EU and Member State level.
Under the authority of Commissioner Viviane Reding, the Information Society and Media Directorate-General is playing a key role in implementing the vision set by Europe's heads of state in Lisbon, 2000: "to make Europe the world's most competitive and dynamic economy, characterised by sustainable growth, more and better jobs and greater social cohesion, by 2010".
