 Barrel /Range  Theory
The prepuce of porting a barrel is not to make the ball spin but to let air in front and behind the ball to escape so the ball can move freely down and out the barrel.
The prepuce of the rifled barrels is very similar to the ported barrel an that it help the air pressure in front and behind the ball.
but the rifled barrel also helps the ball move a little fast out of the barrel because with the groves on the inside there is lest surface area for the ball to rub up ageist.

  Barrels
Really a barrel is composed of two parts on most modern barrels, the unported portion and the ported portion.
Porting is simply the holes in the barrel other than where the ball goes in and out.
Once you have a barrel in the acceptable length ranges, from a reputable manufacturer, the next important thing is the diameter of the barrel in relationship to the size of the paintballs you are shooting.

Finding the right barrel for your gun
The idea behind using two materials in constructing the two-piece barrel is to give the paintball the advantage of lower friction upon initial acceleration by using stainless steel and then using a ported aluminum tip to decrease the overall weight and muffle the guns sound output.
Portings main role is to reduce overall noise levels by venting excess air pressure behind a paintball before the paintball leaves the barrel.
As air escapes through the ports, instead of continuing to push the ball down the barrel, it vents air to the outside increasing the amount of air needed to accelerate a paintball to 300fps, thus reducing gas efficiency.

Porting in a barrel can be a good thing and a bad thing.
Be warned, a heavily ported barrel may cause your marker to be a gas hog.
The purpose of porting is this, when you fire a paintball, the gas you are using wants to expand as quickly as possible.

 Automags.Org Online Forums - A ported barrel/ length question
Been thinking about this for a while and have read that at the very first port of the barrel you lose all pressure behind the paintball (the same as you would at the end of the barrel with out porting).
As the ball passes across the ports some pressure is lost, however the full extent of the 100 psiwould not be lost becross 100% of the porting (to include the end of the barrel once the paint leaves it) has not been passed.
A slightly ported barrel may still have a bit of pressure behind the ball after it reaches the porting.

Real Guns - Dragon Breath? No, Fire Dragon....EFK Fire Dragon Barrels
I did have a 357 SIG barrel for my P229, unfortunately, I treated it to inserts and other tong and hammer rework until it became the launching pad for the 17-357 RG....which in retrospect should have called something like the Valkyrie Avenger, a name that would have commanded more respect from friends and associates.
I believe the slide moving to battery and catching on the barrel hood corner was driving the barrel into the front side of the slides ejection port, raising the burr at the leading edge of the chamber area and preventing normal lock up.
I checked the EFK barrel in a vise and beveled the sides of the barrel hood to match the SIG barrel examples I had on hand.

 SRT  Selecting a suppressor
Many ported barrel guns lose so much bullet velocity from poorly designed porting, that you may be better off with a Crossman pellet rifle for serious pest removal applications.
This means a threaded barrel is required either for the can to screw directly on to the barrel, or to screw on a quick attach coupling device for the suppressor.
barrel threading services at a reasonble price, which ranges from $50 to $125 depending on the complexity of the job, and whether or not a thread protector must be supplied to cover the threads when the suppressor is not on the firearm.

A 0.5 inch longer ported barrel for Kahr K40? - THR   (Site not responding. Last check: )
I am not sure I like the idea of ported barrel so much - the recoil/flip may not be so bad as to trade them against the blinding effect.
The idea is the same: to retain the ballistic performance of the 'standard' length barrel while gaining a slightly more compact package and reduced felt recoil/muzzle flip.
I tried it with several different recoil-operated semiautos and the major factors in how much force was necessary to do it seemed to be the angle at which the force was applied, the relative tightness of the barrel lock-up, and the strength of the recoil spring.

Also included are handguns with smooth bore barrels less than 18" in length and intended to fire shotgun shells; and combination rifle/shotguns with barrels over 12" but under 18", provided each chamber is single shot and must be manually reloaded.
Such guns, if shortened to less than 26" overall or fitted with a barrel under 18", must be registered as an SBS, which means the $200 transfer tax must be paid by the buyer.

Stock-Class Paintball Network - Armson LTD. Barrel Review
Armson was the first company to make “spiral” riffling work for paintball barrels, and as a result was one of the most highly sought after barrels in the early and mid nineties.
A quick fix was simply adding an o-ring to the barrel base, this created a small gap between the receiver and the barrel, but not enough to create sealing problems or effect the paintball as it traveled, in my novice observations.
