Thin and light: Toshiba's Portege R200 ultraportable - infoSync World
Improving on the maker's already-slim Portege R100 ultraportable, Toshiba today unveiled the Portege R200, a 2.68-pound laptop with a 12.1" 4:3 display introduced in conjunction with the company's celebration of the 20th anniversary of the introduction of its first laptop.
In addition, the R200 incorporates a 3D accelerometer which detects motion to enable the laptop to park hard drive heads in case the laptop is dropped, as well as a shock-protected display.
Connectivity is aplenty in the Portege R200, which offers up a 10/100/1000 Ethernet port coupled with a 56K V.92 modem, 2 USB 2.0 ports, a PCMCIA Type II expansion slot and a SD/MMC card expansion slot.

Preview: Toshiba Portege M300 - infoSync World
Sharing most of its specifications with the M100 line, the M300 is powered by a 1.2 GHz Intel Pentium M 753 processor, joined by anywhere between 512 MB and 2 GB of RAM.
Also, a VGA port offers external display support, and the keyboard of the M300 is apparently splash-resistant; one feature I would have loved to have checked, but resistingly decided not to.
To ship this month throughout Europe, the Portege M300 on display at CeBIT was fortunately in a state final enough to allow for a quick and dirty test of the hard drive protection feature, which appeared to work flawlessly; also, a bit of semi-discrete violent shaking revealed the floating LCD to work as advertised, too.

NewsFactor Network - - Product Review: Toshiba Portege R100 Notebook
The Portege R100's single speaker is mounted in the bottom of the chassis, which is never a good idea when it comes to delivering sound vibrations to the human ear.
The good news is that Toshiba's designers were able to cram the requisite lineup of external connections onto the notebook's rear panel, including a full-size VGA video output connector.
Despite its diminutive footprint, the Portege R100 sports a full-size keyboard that I found to be more than adequate to the needs of even the most demanding of typists, including those who need dedicated Windows and application-key support.
