I vaguely remember an episode in which Porthos offended some alien dudes by pissing on their sacred tree.
Archer refused to apologize up until the end, when he performed an elaborate dance of apology as required by the aliens' tradition.
It was mentioned that Archer got Porthos from a girlfriend, one of four; the others from the litter were named after the other three musketeers.

Her addition to the cast seemed to many fans to be mostly about sexing up the show, which is something true Trek fans (myself included) are rather against.

MC: My favorite Star Trek episode of the Original Series would have to be "The Doomsday Machine." I wouldn't argue it's necessarily the best, it's just the one that pushed all my buttons as a kid.
We're currently in a dark time of our own and to have Star Trek show us that there is a way back to peace, a way to put all of the anger and hostilies behind us, would be a very powerful statement.
