The 10.5-acre property is currently owned by the Town of Portland (Town), and consists of a municipal transfer station, recycling station, and a capped landfill.
The property is bordered to the south by Pecausett Meadows; to the east by residences and woods; to the west by an automobile junkyard; and to the north by a small construction company and residences.
In 1968, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP) reported that septic wastes were disposed of in an on-site lagoon; and in 1974, leachate was observed in Pecausett Meadows, an adjacent wetland.
