Plus the portraits do alot of sleeping so my guess is, is that they are off doing their own thing and return to their portraits every now and again.
I don't think he is going to be too vocal though, the portraits of the ex headmasters and mistresses are sworn to serve the current one aren't they- and McGonagall doesn't know exactly whay Harry and Dumbledore were up to does she.
Aug 18 2005, 06:24 PM I think the portrait is a "snapshot" of the person at the time the portrait is made with the memories and knowledge with additional knowledge gained from the location where it is hung.

JKR says on her website that Portraits aren't really like the living person, just sort of copies of them, and that they basically just repeat things that the person said a lot during their lifetime.
I think you can compare Hogwarts portraits to computer programs or something, you know, cause they do have a certain amount of artificial intelligence, and are able to respond to you and carry out tasks, but they're not like living thinking people.
Dumbledore took his place in his portrait, the portraits, as explained previously, have the likeness of the person but they cannot think for themselves.

I loved the scenery it showed while you watched the Hogwarts Express chug away in the distance, and Sirius (in dog formation of course) certainly helped to set the tone of the first part of the game.
The movies were also somewhat shorter than those from the previous game, and so in that I thought EA did a good job of setting the story up for you, but not too much so that you could get started playing the game as soon as possible.
The "transport portraits": all floors are accessible from one central location, no need to climb seven or so flights of stairs to get to the Gryffindor Common Room anymore.
