The median income for a household in the township is $45,500, and the median income for a family is $50,938.

 Group pushes for tax to fight retail
On Sept. 6, members of COG plan to again ask the township board to hold a special election in November to ask voters for a half-mill tax to raise a legal defense fund for fending off unwanted development.
Then, said township Supervisor Dave Wagner, the board likely will nix the idea of a special election, not just because of its cost but because the big-box proposal is off the table.
The township's legal fund, Wagner said, is adequate to defend against a developer's lawsuit.

In 1857, Bay County was established and Williams Township along with Saginaw County's Portsmouth Township became the charter townships of the newly formed county.
Later, Williams Township was reduced in size as new localized settlements within its boundaries warranted their own township representation in Bay County government.
In 1954, Williams Township celebrated their 100th anniversary issuing the pamphlet, "Auburn - Williams Centennial, 1854-1954" which is the source for most of this history.
