Presentation of PS The Socialist Party (PS - Partido Socialista) is the biggest party at the moment and is ruling the country with a relative majority in the parliament.
The flag of the Socialist Party is a red rectangle, having in the upper left corner the symbol of the party.
Although the portuguese Socialist Party uses a fist as its official emblem, the more modern and moderate “socialist rose”, used by so many “center left” european parties, also shows in many party graphic material — indeed a sharp contrast with the official symbol, a kind politico-graphical split personality disorder.

Finnish efforts were, by and large, fruitless, as most other parties of the SI were aware of the "special Finnish situation." But the result of the effor t s of all three parties was a series of debates in SI meetings with the aim of achieving a uniform concept of detente within the organization.
Meanwhile, some SI parties, nota bly the Dutch Labor Party, Belgian Socialist Party and Finnish Social Democratic Party began acting as if the cold war were a matter of the distant past and even the 1969 SI qualified rejection of cooperation with communism was no longer relevant.
Although the Finnish and Swedish parties had maintained their dialogues with the CPSU for some years, the Finns much more intensively than the Swedes, it fell to the Belgian Socialist Party (PSB) to become the first in t he SI to establish a formal cooperative relationship with the CPSU.

The Constitution was revised in 1982, 1989 and, 1992, removing in the process its socialist bias, exercising the words 'socialism' and 'classless society' and introducing a provision for a binding referendum.

The Socialist Party government says the austerity plan is necessary to deal with the economic problems facing Portugal, while it hides behind the fact that the previous government lied about Portugal’s economic situation when it joined the Euro Zone.
The Portuguese working class feels cheated by capitalist politicians: on the one hand they were lured into the Euro Zone by the former government on the basis of false promises and lies, on the other hand the Socialist Party government has come to mean “more of the same”.
A genuine socialist party would raise demands to respond to the immediate needs of the working class and youth such as a national minimum wage of at least €500, the redraw of the government’s cut-back plan and decent work contracts and affordable housing.

Party treasurer and seafarers' union leader Sam McCluskie urged the party to change its rules to block the 'hijack of constituency parties by factions unrepresentative of the broad mass of Labour supporters.' He also wanted Labour councils to 'stop espousing the cause of minority interests'.
