Position error - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This "position error" is mainly due to errors in sensing static pressure.
Because Bernoulli's principle states that total pressure is constant along a streamline, a pitot tube that is away from the boundary layer and approximately aligned with the local airflow should not cause much position error.
Position error is typically small (a few percent), and, for small planes, the IAS will be lower than CAS at slow speeds and higher than CAS at high speeds.

Position error sensing and feedback apparatus and method - Patent 4792228
The position error sensing and feedback apparatus of claim 1, wherein said apparatus is integrated into said positioning device such that its structure does not substantially interfere with the ordinary operation of said device, and wherein said apparatus can be selectively utilized in conjunction with the operation of said device.
The positional and orientational error sensing and feedback apparatus of claim 17, wherein said error detector means comprises optical structures for measuring angular and translational deviations relative said polarized laser beam, as well as rotational deviations relative the transmission axes of said polarized beam.
Dual axis position sensor 45 has a photo-sensitive surface with electrodes A through D spaced about its peripheral edge, and light from the beam impinging the photodiode produces a photocurrent which is delivered to the four electrodes, and the current at each electrode is inversely proportional to distance from the light spot to that electrode.

Head position error compensation in disk drives - Patent 5805373
During the normal operation, the position error is measured in a predetermined interval (such as one or several months) and the data of the measurement result are stored in the position error amount table at the time of the operation in the EEPROM 40.
When measurement of the position error amount during the normal operation is made, the data are not written to the medium, and the data of the position error amount of the medium stored at the time of shipment from the factory are as such stored.
The amount of the position error may be calculated from a measurement value of at least one position (for example, the measurement value of the inner cylinder) and from the.

Method and apparatus for the correction of the position error of a multifaceted rotating mirror - Patent 4404596
Positional errors are corrected for a light beam which is deflected point and line-wise across a scanning surface by a polyhedral rotating mirror.
Due to optical and geometrical errors of the polyhedral rotating mirror and the positional errors of the light beam on the surface which are caused thereby, the reproduction quality, however, is considerably decreased.
For the determination of the positional errors in a test phase before recording, with the polyhedral rotating mirror 13 rotating during the test phase, the flat bed recording support 18 is shifted in the Y-direction to such a degree that the measuring elements 28a, 28b and 28c, as illustrated in FIG.

In-situ linearization of magnetic read/write head transducer position error signal - US Patent 6700731   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-08-19)
wherein obtaining comprises obtaining the position error signal based on (i) the predetermined offset, (ii) at least one of said second plurality of different position offsets, and (iii) at least one of said second plurality of position error signals, for the zone that the track is located in.
The signals produced by the servo bits are typically demodulated into position offset signals which are used to determine the position of the head relative to the track, and to move the actuator arm if the head is not located on the track centerline.
For example, as the head is moved from the null PES to position "a" to the right of the track centerline 520, the difference between the actual PES "c" and the ideal PES "b" is the error value, which may be substantial to decrease drive performance.

Method for correcting position error in navigation system Number:6,931,322 from the United States Patent and Trademark ...
Providing incorrect current positions of the moving object or providing position information discontinuously may cause serious damages on the safety of an operator of the moving object, so the determination of current positions of the moving object is very important.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a method for correcting position error in a navigation system, in which measurement position of a moving object is used to find a node between interpolation points of a candidate link having a highest possibility to be matched on a map.
In summary, according to the method for correcting position error in a navigation system of the present invention, the current position measurement of the moving object is corrected to a previously map matched displacement-corrected value, and the current position of the moving object is matched with the link on the digital map.
