Positronic brain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A positronic brain is a fictional technological device, originally conceived by science fiction writer Isaac Asimov.
When Asimov wrote his first robot stories in 1939/1940, the positron was a newly discovered particle and so the buzz word positronic, coined by analogy with electronic, added a contemporary gloss of popular science to the concept.
Asimov remained vague about the technical details except to assert that the brain's substructure was formed from an alloy of platinum and iridium.

The construction of a positronic brain is extremely complex, and Dr. Soong is the only scientist to have done so successfully - on at least seven occasions: three unspecified prototypes, B-4, Lore, Data and Juliana Soong (although the latter three were the only truly stable units).
The term 'positronic brain' was coined by Isaac Asimov.

 The Positronic Brain
The positronic brain is a piece of science fiction gobbledygook invented by author Isaac Asimov (1920 - 1992) and since taken up as a standard in the genre.
Little more is said about the operation of the robotic brain other than the implication that it somehow relies on pairs of positrons and electrons being created and annihilating each other.
The concept of a positronic brain, although undefined and meaningless, has become so well accepted that it has appeared in the work of other writers.

The History of the Positronic Robot and Foundation Stories
Over the course of the 1940s, a young science fiction writer named Isaac Asimov created two series of stories that would form the basis for his reputation as one of the top practitioners of his field.
These were the Positronic Robot series and the Foundation series.
The Positronic Robot series, the earlier of the two, began in 1940 with the publication of "Strange Playfellow" in the September issue of

Unfortunately, the producers of the show locked onto the "positronic" aspect as if that were the key quality to Asimov's robots.
Asimov's view was exactly the opposite -- his robots are "positronic" because positrons had just been discovered when he started writing robot stories and the word had a nice science-fictiony ring to it.
Unlike the Three Laws, however, the Zeroth Law is not a fundamental part of positronic robotic engineering, is not part of all positronic robots, and, in fact, requires a very sophisticated robot to even accept it.
