Wiley Hardeman Post, aviator, fourth son of William Francis and Mae (Quinlan) Post, was born near Grand Saline in Van Zandt County, Texas, on November 22, 1898.
Before his death in a plane crash in 1935, Post became one of the best-known fliers in the world, mainly because of a flight around the world with navigator Harold Gatty in 1931 and a similar solo flight in 1933.
Although Post lived outside the state the rest of his life, he traveled and worked in Texas while in the employ of Oklahoma oilmen and later married a Texas woman.

On November 5, 1920, a conference of the Adjutant General and other representatives of the National Guard of all the states in the Eighth Corps Area was held at Ft. Sam Houston for the purpose of discussing plans for the reorganization of the National Guard, and the allotment of troops to the several states.
The principal change in the allotment of troops to Texas was the substitution of an infantry division for the cavalry division previously authorized.
Although the tentative allotment for Texas was made known at this conference, it was not until December 3 that a letter was received from the Chief, Militia Bureau, authorizing the organization of the new units.

While Texas already had a parental notification bill that was approved in 1999, the new measure requires a parent to provide written consent for unmarried girls under 18.
The bill also restricts doctors from performing abortions on women who have carried a child for more than 26 weeks unless having the baby would jeopardize the woman's life or the baby has serious brain damage.
