  Earwing Records - Jullander
Jullander are concerned with a type of music that, by the unhappy name of "Postrock", once promised a great range of freedom and possibilities, but then began to degenerate into a confining and predictable genre and ultimately into mere style.
A two-quarter instrumental band whose obvious strength is the feeling for duration, style, word and chord.
But they do it with elegance, dignity and devotion and in doing so they pick up the thread that was all to often lost in aesthetic arts and crafts.

How Not To Make A '90s Post-Rock Album
I'm writing this for the simple reason that I haven't bought any albums by new groups that have really challenged me. It occurred to me that the paradigm for "avant-garde indie" music established by the Too Pure/Thrill Jockey/Drag City axis didn't satisfy me any more.
My aim is to point out the ways in which a certain genre of independent rock music, namely the outsider-music dubbed "postrock" by critic Simon Reynolds, has been saturating the market.
I can't make a call about what anyone else's Next Level will be (although, I know what MINE is going to be!) but hopefully people will recognize that the "postrock" genre (poorly articulated to begin with) is becoming artistic baggage.

It's hard to remember now, but there was actually a time between rock and postrock.
But before anyone could lift his head out of this hypnotic sand and call it postrock, a new wave of gentler groups such as Slint, Tortoise, and Labradford got saddled with that now-hackneyed title.
The result was that the "pre-post-rock" bands--whose relatively difficult music was never going overground anyway--were shielded from any potential limelight, and thus had infinite room to venture off into whatever fogs their blissful obscurity might lead.

The grand opening for this lovely new attraction on postrock country will be in spring 2002 when the grass and flowers will be more established.
In the meantime, tell your friends this is a "don't-miss-it" site in central Kansas.

Sprung from the vibrant underground scene in Berlin, the fourpiece Seidenmatt combines indie electronica with their very own rhythmic take on postrock.

Attacking from the north, they've infiltrated the Loops for ACID catalog with locked-and-loaded copies of Extremely Abrasive Beats, a sonic weapon of beat loops and hits so caustic, we had to change their names to prevent a lawsuit.

SHZine's subtitle used to include such subtle genres as mathrock, postrock and avant garde, but behold that this was only a lure to those who may credit themselves as wise in their ways.
It's true, we do enjoy more the challenging styles that defy description so we can make up our own genres and become historical figures in the documentation of rock and roll, but it's also hard to ignore the more genuine inventions of spirited composers that easily fall into the category of simply amazing.

A relatively new genre which continues to evolve in scope and definition, postrock is a treat to the ears.
Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Rós, Do Make Say Think, and Mogwai at the helm, it has slowly grown in recognition through movie soundtracks.
Yes, there's quite a plethora of postrock bands, but is anything necessarily revolutionary, or just a rehash of past ideas brought into contemporary context?
