Researchers and practitioners in the field of disability and postsecondary education have amassed substantial data which is evidence of the great strides made since legislators first recognized the rights of people with disabilities and also of the value of their participation in and completion of postsecondary education.
The cost of higher education in America is an increasingly expensive proposition and has in fact become too onerous for most students and their families to handle without the procurement of financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, or loans.
Related to the issue of postsecondary training of personnel is the issue of the lack of higher education teachers and the insufficient teaching preparation college and university faculty receive (www.c-c-d.org, September 3, 2003).
