This is a survey of the postage stamps and postal history of the Confederate States of America.
The first two stamps were a 5¢ green depicting Jefferson Davis, and a 10¢ blue with Thomas Jefferson, both lithographed by Hoyer and Ludwig of Richmond, Virginia.
In 1862, a 2¢ stamp of Andrew Jackson appeared, in green, and in turn the 5¢ and 10¢ stamps were reprinted in blue and rose, respectively.

The Confederate States of America—also referred to as the Confederate States, CSA, the Confederacy and Dixie (colloquially)—was a splinter state (in the national sense, not the U.S. state sense) off the United States of America that existed between 1861 and 1865.
The Confederate States were formed on February 4, 1861, by six Southern slave states (South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana) after confirmation of the election of Abraham Lincoln as President of the United States.
The Confederate officer corps was composed mostly of southern gentry, and the Confederacy appointed junior and field grade officers by election from the enlisted ranks.

The Post Office Department of the Confederate States of America was established on February 21, 1861, by an Act of the Provisional Congress of the Confederate States.
Although postage stamps became available in 1847, mailers had the option of sending their letters and having the recipients pay the postage until 1855, when prepayment became compulsory.
