  Postcard Records on TweeNet
These original Postcard artists not only made some of the most exciting music themselves in that era, fighting the conservative onslaught of post-punk New Romantic silliness, but they also had a huge impact on the nascent pop sensibilities of thousands of as-yet unheard bands and followers.
Postcard called it quits after 1981, after Orange Juice and Aztec Camera had departed for major labels (and the charts).
Alan Horne released a few records on his new label Swamplands, but he never achieved success commensurate with his influence.

Band who started a revolution - [Sunday Herald]
Postcard Records was a shoestring operation; the kind of business run out of someone’s living room (or, in this case, someone’s wardrobe) while they struggled to pay the bills by holding down a regular job.
Now those recordings – along with the singles Orange Juice recorded for Postcard, and a John Peel session – are seeing the light of day properly, under the name The Glasgow School.
It was to be the last hurrah of Orange Juice’s Postcard years, and though they soldiered on for three sporadically brilliant albums, line-up changes and fraught recording sessions drained a good deal of the magic forged in Glasgow’s sweatbox gig venues and cheap recording studios.

Strikes me those Postcard records had a lot to answer for, that they're correctly invoked by a lot of musicians.
Postcard is a much more praised label than I can understand — as much as I do like Josef K and Aztec (especially JK), I have never been a big fan of Orange Juice, or really of the Go Betweens.
I'm a bit pissed off that Roddy Frame won't reissue his Postcard stuff on CD because he considers them rare treasures too valuable to be wasted on pleb record buyers or whatever it was he said in that Uncut piece.

So does the fact that once dowdy, Postcard Records offices in Glasgow have a front door now where a few months ago and an Orange Juice/Josef K article back, they did not.
Postcard Records of Scotland (note also the proud, cheeky chauvinistic addition!) have a front door now on which to stick their impertinent, subversively Trumpton Greenesque stickers.
I think Postcard will be more significant now than I did the last time I visited them (and, first fruits of independent staunchness, a Josef K album is just around the corner).
