  Postmillennialism
Postmillennialism instead adheres to the belief the kingdom of Christ is now being established on earth through the preaching of the Gospel and the expansion of church power.
This facet of Postmillennialism is significant, because it was the rise of Catholicism and its union with the state power of Rome, which facilitated the need for a belief system emphasizing the Church's involvement in the domestic, political, diplomatic, and military affairs of the state.
Postmillennialism in its American Protestant form does differ from that of Catholic eschatology in its view of the significance of the Pope insofar as the end of the age is concerned.

Postmillennialism also teaches that the forces of Satan will gradually be defeated by the expansion of the Kingdom of God throughout history up until the second coming of Christ.

While many of the basic elements of postmillennialism remain the same, distinction should be made between liberals who promote a postmillennialism through humanism (i.e., the social gospel of the past) and evangelical postmillennialism that promote progress through the church's preaching of the gospel and application of Mosaic Law.
Later, in the States, postmillennial decline awaited the turn of the century and was dealt a near-fatal blow by WWI and WWII and identification with the Social Gospel and Liberalism.
Postmillennialism is inconsistent with the biblical fact that the cataclysmic return of Christ brings in the kingdom (Rev. 19-20), not the preaching of the gospel and gradual human progress.

American Postmillennialism | The Reformed Reader   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Another critical factor which must be kept in view is that the term postmillennial is usually understood today as an eschatological position quite distinct from "amillennialism." In fact, it is generally understood that one who adopts a postmillennial eschatology self-consciously rejects the amillennial understanding of the millennial age and nature of the reign of Christ.
Thus one unifying factor in what is now designated "postmillennialism" is this idea of the millennial age as one in which the entire world is progressively subdued by the church through the means of the preaching and acceptance of the gospel.
For one thing, postmillennialism, as a distinct eschatological viewpoint, holds that the millennial age is one of the "Christianizing of the nations," which includes the progressive cessation of virtually all forms and activities of evil.

Reconstructionist Postmillennialism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Reconstructionist Postmillennialism or Theonomic Postmillennialism is a form of Christian millennial eschatology which applies Christian Reconstructionism to the advancement of the Kingdom of God through out the millennium spoken of in chapter 20 of the Book of Revelation.
Reconstructionist Postmillennialism sees that along with grass roots preaching of the Gospel and specifically Christian education, Christians should also set about changing society's legal and political institutions in accordance with Biblical (and also sometimes Theonomic) ethics.
Reconstructionist Postmillennialism contrasts with Revivalist Postmillennialism (or Pietistic Postmillennialism) which stops short of concentrated Christian efforts to change society's secularized institutions whilst focusing more on evangelism alone.

In light of postmillennialism's own sharp, radical distinguishing of itself from amillennialism in terms of nothing less than the victory or defeat of Christ in history, it is incomprehensible that some who do speak out, weakly, in favor of amillennialism still attempt to align amillennialism with postmillennialism as two acceptable eschatologies in the Reformed churches.

 What is postmillennialism?
Answer: Postmillennialism refers to a belief that Christ returns after a period of time, but not necessarily 1,000 years.
Furthermore, by the prefix "post" in postmillennialism, those who hold this view believe that Christ will return after Christians (not Christ Himself) have established the kingdom on this earth.
Those who hold to postmillennialism believe that this world will become better and better, with the entire world eventually becoming "Christianized." After this happens, then Christ will return.

There is this openness to postmillennialism, evidently, in the churches that have recently split from the Christian Reformed Church and that are loosely associated in the Alliance of Reformed Churches (ARC).

Since Postmillennialism has been so ably supported by outstanding theologians and ministers whose influences continue at the present time, and since it occupies such a prominent place in a number of standard theological works, it seems rather curious to find Premillennialists attempting to assign it merely an antiquarian interest.
Dr. Warfield, who in the opinion of the present writer is to be ranked with Augustine, Calvin, and Charles Hodge as one of the four outstanding theologians in the entire history of the Church, was a Postmillennialist, and his collected writings, reprinted in ten large volumes, continue to exert a strong influence in theological circles.
