Newfoundland had not completely dampened his youthful enthusiasm for primitive camping.
This movement of Newfoundland families for summer fishing on the Labrador coast had been an annual occurrence for many years.
The high spot of this enforced trip was camping in central Labrador, in a spruce forest carpeted with brown and gray lichen - pristine, totally quiet, and dimly lit by a moonless sky - a mind boggling experience.
