		Agent Mitchell recommended that a separate agency, "to be called the 'Pottawatomie Agency,' be constituted to embrace the Pottawatomie and Kanzas Indians." This was necessary, he said, because of the "jealousies and sectional interest" which had prevailed.
		All the reports from the Pottawatomies were omitted from the annual report of the Commissioner of Indian Affairs for the year 1850.
		They first came in contact with the Pawnees, and but for the timely aid of the Pottawatomies (who happened to be but a few miles off) would have killed the last one, as they had them surrounded and had killed some ten or fifteen before the Pottawatomies reached the scene of action.

	Pottawatomie County, Part 1
		POTTAWATOMIE County, formerly embraced within the limits of Riley, was organized by the Territorial Legislature of 1857.
		Its northern and southern boundaries were the same as at present, while its western boundary was the guide meridian, about five miles east of Manhattan, and its eastern boundary about five miles east of its present one.
		Its northwestern tributaries are Spring Creek with eastern branches, and the Four Miles as a western branch; the Shannon, Carnahan, McIntire, Cedar and Elbow creeks.

	The Pottawatomie Indian Tribe
		It was concluded at the Pottawatomie Agency, near Council Bluffs, on the 5th day of June with the Iowa or Prairie band; and on the 17th of June with the Kansas band, on Pottawatomie Creek.
		The Pottawatomie Nation was to move to this new reservation within two years, and certain annuities were to be paid the individuals of the Nation one year after they had settled there.

		By May 1912, the area, soon to be known as Pottawatomie Park, became the property of St. Charles Township.
		For 35 cents Anderson took passengers for a trip up the river on his "Honeymoon Queen." By the 1960s, his first boat was replaced by the "St. Charles Belle I" and in 1981 by "St. Charles Bell II." His latest boat "Fox River Queen", which was built in 1987, can carry 130 passengers.
		The most recent improvement made to Pottawatomie Park is the community center.

	History of St. Marys, Kansas - Pottawatomie County Economic Development Corporation
		Marys was founded in 1847 as a Jesuit Mission and tribal headquarters, serving the Pottawatomie tribe when that tribe was moved from Sugar Creek reserve in eastern Kansas.
		Marys Mission was the Pottawatomie Tribal headquarters and service center until the tribal lands were greatly reduced in about 1867.
		The Old Pay Station, an original building that served to distribute annual annuity payments and conduct other business on behalf of the tribe in the early days of St. Marys, still stands and is part of the St. Marys museum complex.

	Seeing The Light - Pottawotamie Lighthouse
		David E. Corbin, a veteran of the 1812 War and a former employee of the American Fur Company was selected as the station's first keeper, and Corbin exhibited the light for the first time in October of 1837.
		With the illumination of the Pottawatomie light a number of "firsts" were established, as the lighthouse was the first in Wisconsin, the first on Lake Michigan, and Corbin was by definition the first keeper for both.
		Corbin's had his work cut out for him, as he had to cut a mile-long trail from the light to the boat landing at the south end of the island.
