In 1863 he moved to Logan County, Ill., where he was engaged in farming until 1871, when he came to Kansas settling on a farm in Pottawatomie County.
In the spring of 1868, he came to Kansas, settling on the farm where he still resides, and has done so continuously since, except the years 1877-'78, when he lived in Louisville, and was engaged in the lumber trade.
In 1872, he was elected from Pottawatomie County to the Kansas House of Representatives, serving in the session of 1873.
