He came to Iowa in the spring of 1862 and settled on section 11, Belknap township, Pottawattamie county, where he is now living at the advanced age of eighty-four years.
The county was fortunate in securing him for a citizen, as he stood for progress and improvement and contributed in substantial measure to the advancement that was here made along business, political and intellectual lines.

The jail was designed to provide "maximum security with minimum jailer attention." The jail is essentially a three-story cylinder with each level of the cylinder divided into small, pie-piece-shaped cells.
