  G4
The G4 is a powerful RISC-based microprocessor, belonging to the PowerPC family of processors.
It is used used in Apple Macintosh computers such as the G4 PowerBook (known colloquially as the "TiBook"), the 2002 2nd generation "Flat Panel" iMac and the desktop G4 Power Mac.
Another big performance boost in the G4 microprocessor came from a 64-bit arithmetic logic unit, or ALU, derived in part from the 604 series ALU.

 Power Macintosh G4 Cube Q & A: Networking, Communication & Security @ EveryMac.com
Although the Power Macintosh G4 Cube takes up less space than the tower case of the Power Macintosh G4 models, multiple cubes cannot be stacked, so you're limited to a fairly small number of Cube-based servers in a given location.
The Power Macintosh G4 Cube has the standard Macintosh security port that can be used with a security kit, and the bottom release latch is lockable to make it more difficult for unauthorized users to open the case.
However, due to its small size, it is probably best that the Power Macintosh G4 Cube not be used in settings in which there is a high-risk of theft.

The Power Macintosh G4/400 (PCI Graphics) uses a case design effectively the same as that introduced with the Power Macintosh G3 (Blue & White) -- complete with a fold down door on the side that makes upgrading very easy -- but is clad in a more conservative "graphite" and white color scheme.
The Power Macintosh G4 (PCI Graphics) models have the processor mounted on a ZIF socket.
This Power Macintosh G4 model is capable of booting MacOS 9 and using MacOS 9 applications within the MacOS X "Classic" environment.

Based on the Unified Motherboard Architecture, The G4 AGP was built around the MPC 7400 chip, which was dramatically faster than its predecessor, the PPC 750 (for a more detailed description of the 7400, click here.
The G4 AGP introduced a number of performance improvements, including AGP-based graphics, AirPort compatibility, a faster memory bus, DVD-ROM or RAM standard, an internal FireWire port, 2 separate USB buses for a combined 24 Mbs, a 2X (133 MHz) AGP slot, and up to 1.5 GB of RAM.
The G4 AGP started at $2499 for the 450 MHz configuration with a 20 GB hard drive and 128 MB of RAM, and $3499 for the 500 MHz configuration with a 27 GB hard drive and 256 MB or RAM (both included internal Zip drives).

 G4 Power Supply Fan Swap
I thought that replacing the fan in the power supply (PSU) and removing the (somewhat redundant) finger guards would decrease the PSU's echo capacity and allow more air to be circulated at the same sound volume, with some hope of a more pleasant noise.
I originally planned to power the fan from the original fan power feed, but the increased draw from the new fan required and external connection.
The main power feeds are glued to the fan in 2 places, which had to be pried free in order to remove it.

 Macworld: Review: Power Macintosh G4/400
With the release of the new Power Macintosh G4 series, Apple further confused matters by including a low-end model–the 350MHz Power Macintosh G4–that has far more in common with a blue-and-white Power Macintosh G3 than with its siblings, the 400MHz and 450MHz Power Macintosh G4 models.
As we expected, the 400MHz G4 system was much faster than a 400MHz Power Mac G3 when using applications, such as Photoshop and SoundJam MP, that take advantage of the Velocity Engine subprocessor (see "Old and New").
For example, the G4 was about twice as fast as the G3 when applying a Gaussian Blur and almost three times faster when running the Lighting Effects plug-in.
