		Power metal is a style of heavy metal music with the aim of evoking an "epic" feel, incorporating characteristics of primarily traditional metal along with thrash metal or speed metal, often within a fantastic or (less often) symphonic context.
		Power metal, as the term is used today, places primary importance on an epic sound, usually at high speeds, primarily due to its speed metal roots, and with catchy melodies.
		Power metal vocals are generally "clean", as opposed to the growling vocals that characterise death metal, and are delivered by a trained vocalist.

		Earlier I viewed power metal as an intermediate genre between heavy/speed metal of Helloween and thrash metal of Metallica, represented by Metal Church, Sanctuary and Secrecy.
		But their aura of operatic romanticism over speed metal is something that has not yet been topped, and the dedication and execution is at different heights from what the most of the others do.
		Powers Court "Nine Kinds of Hell" (Dragonheart) do not deserve the same harsh words because the band at least had the same identity until the power metal explosion, being faithful to the 80s power metal in rough American style since the early 90s.

		The album is filled with high quality Melodic Hardrock/Metal with a great melodic lead singer (Dani Milan) and the CD itself has a very big sound, due to the use of 2 guitars and 1 keyboard.
		The album has a big heavy melodic sound, and it’s really a pleasure to listen to their CD from the start until the finish of the album.
		The music included is typical Italo Power Metal a la LABYRINTH, but instead of being a weak copy, HERALDRY is a very strong band with a great singer and some sensational material on their debut CD.

	No Life 'til Metal - CD Gallery - Dream Evil
		Despite what might sound like a cheesy title to this album, it is actually quite fitting as Dream Evil have morphed a bit from a power metal band into a 100% bonified heavy metal band.
		I mean, I suppose you could still label this power metal, but these songs seem to be a bit catchier and slightly more melodic than the first two Dream Evil CDs.
		In my opinion, this CD is as stong as some of the staples of the genre, equal to the some releases by Jag Panzer, Anvil, Priest and even the mighty Maiden.

		The first time I became aware of the Hungarian Metal band known as Cross Borns was when I saw a few of their albums advertised in the "New Arrivals" section on one of the sites of the Metal distros here in the U.S. that I frequent.
		Case in point, while Blind Guardian's "Nightfall In Middle Earth" is probably my favorite Power Metal album of all time, and it's widely considered to be one of the most well written Power Metal albums as well, Cross Borns' "A Tale Of Winter Night" is almost...
		At one point on the album I heard some chimes and a bagpipe that got me all excited, but they were gone all too quickly never to be heard again.

	Absolut Metal album review - Nocturnal Rites - Afterlife (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-25)
		Nocturnal Rites were formed in Umeå (a city really up north in Sweden) in 1995.
		For a power metal album "Afterlife" is quite rough around the edges and sometimes it’s also a bit heavy to call power metal, but the album is a masterpiece.
		Their last record from 2002 "Shadowland" is less rough around the edges and is pure power metal Sweden style.

		Mercury Tide is the new band/project founded by Angel Dust vocalist Dirk Thurisch, the project coming together as a result of the uncertainty of Angel Dust's present and future.
		It's a relatively varied release, as several styles are on display here, and though the songs are well-constructed, there isn't really a lot here that hasn't been heard before.
		is a decent melodic metal album, though not quite the power metal fix that Angel Dust fans might have been hoping for.
