  PPT FAQ
PowerPoint 4 had a great feature called "Play Lists" that allowed PowerPoint to read a text (LST) file with the names of the presentation files in order, and it would play those files one after another in slide show.
PowerPoint loads the image of the next slide into memory while the previous slide is playing, but I don't believe it has any way to load linked files until they are activated.
PowerPoint slides and entire presentations can be made into PDF files, but you'll need to purchase a copy of Adobe Acrobat in order to do it.

Tad Simons, the editor of the magazine "Presentations" (whose second-grade son used PowerPoint for show-and-tell), is familiar with the sin of triple delivery, where precisely the same text is seen on the screen, spoken aloud, and printed on the handout in front of you (the "leave-behind," as it is known in some circles).
