Topic: Powered armour

Powered armor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Powered armor (also mechanized, battle, personal armor and suits) is a science fiction concept referring to a type of armored self-powered exoskeleton that is typically intended for use in battle, construction and survival in dangerous environments.
Masamune Shirow uses powered armor suits called "Landmates" in most of his stories, while the "Armored Trooper" of Armored Trooper VOTOMS and the [Guyver unit] from Guyver are an example of piloted powered armor-sized mecha.
Powered armor is heavily used in science fiction role-playing games, such as Rifts, to allow weak and mundane humans to compete in combat with supernatural and super-powerful adversaries.

Power Armour is manufactured on a number of high tech worlds - Pancahte for one - but is not in universal use.
The advantage that powered armour offers, weighed against logistics, limited range and cost, is twofold: extra protection for the wearer plus the ability to utilise heavier weapons than would normally be carried by an infantryman.
With armour manufactured on Pancahte, for example, the weapons fitment is considerable: along with a man pack laser weapon and a coil gun for longer range punch, armoured troopers often carry a large calibre, semi-auto, 10cm powergun, which the recoil alone would render impractical for unassisted infantry.

For a start, while powered armour was slower and less able to take damage than fighters could, they could be used to assault space facilities quite happily, and plant demolition charges where fighters couldn't.
As a result, a fair amount of research went into Allied space powered armour, and three main types of suit were developed as a result.
The Mk II attempted to correct this by mounting armour, but the only way to do this was to lose a lot of fuel, and thus the suit had to be carried into action by another ship.

Like the 'Dancer' the new Warrior powered armour suits are an upgraded and modified version of an existing model, apparently in an attempt to avoid the costly research and development needed to produce a totally original design.
By increasing the power output of the 00985's chassis unit and adding additional plates of compressed ceramic armour, the resulting suit is superior in both projection value and damage taking ability.
The Warrior also comes with a superior feedback and control system as well as improved power management which prevents it from restricting the users movements despite the addition weight of armour it carries, something that seems to plague many of DarkNight's earlier designs such as the 01000.

 YX Crusher
Rather than being a specifically produced kit like the Burner series of armour, the YX Crusher Powered Armour type appears to have resulted from an attempt by a, as yet unknown, soft company to disposing of surplus powered armour chassis units by dumping them on Mort's fl market.
These have been quickly snapped up by various groups who are now converting them into fully function suits by adding their own scrounge electronics, armour and control systems in a similar way to the Burner concept.
The first of these is known as the Standard and we estimate it carries roughly the same weight of armour the chassis was intended for and so permits limited strength argumentation.

For direct armour support for UNSCMC Infantry, all UNSCMC Rifle Companies include a section of armour.  It consists of a section command vehicle and three detachments of one vehicle per detachment.  The vehicle of choice for most UNSCMC Rifle Companies is the Mercury A-229 Heavy GEV Tank.
