PowerGen is planning to create 450 jobs at call centres in Bedford, Leicester, Nottingham, Rayleigh and Bolton by the end of the year, in order to reduce the level of outsourcing in India.
PowerGen is to combine Midlands Electricity and East Midlands Electricity into a new group called Central Networks, which is expected to lead to the closure of some offices and the loss of some of the 5,000 jobs.
PowerGen is to close one of the four generating units at its coal-fired power station in Ferrybridge, Yorkshire, which is seen as another blow to RJB Mining, the coal producer.
