Powers (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Powers is a comic book series by writer Brian Michael Bendis, artist Michael Avon Oeming and colorist Pat Garrehy.
It was originally published through Image Comics beginning in 2000, but in 2004 it moved to Marvel Comics, where the series launched Marvel's Icon Comics division for creator-owned titles.
Gradually, it becomes evident that the relationship between Powers and regular people isn't wholly benign, and that opposition to the superbeings is approaching a critical point.

Brian Michael Bendis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Powers would serve as sort of a bridge between two periods of work: it was noir fiction, but noir fiction in a world of superheroes.
However Marvel Comics did not have a mature line comparable to the Vertigo imprint of DC Comics.
Screenwriter (and later comic book writer) Allan Heinberg named a supporting character on the television show The O.C. after Bendis, and Seth Cohen, a fictional protagonist of the show, is a comic book fan whose favorite writer is Bendis.

Robin (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Robin is a DC Comics superhero, a teenaged sidekick to Batman.
In the original comics storyline, a gangster named Boss Zucco had been extorting money from the circus and killed Grayson's parents, John and Mary, by sabotaging their trapeze equipment as a warning against defiance.
DC Comics was left uncertain about readers' decision to kill Todd, wondering if they felt Batman should be a lone vigilante, disliked Todd specifically, or just wanted to see if DC would actually kill the character.

 Superman's Super-Powers
Compared with the powers he possesses today, however, the powers employed by Superman in the early texts are modest indeed.
Today Superman can withstand the heat at the core of the sun, soar through the air at a speed thousands of times the speed of light, and extinguish a star with a puff of his breath as though it were merely a candle on a birthday cake.
According to a revised theory of Superman's powers, first advanced in 1960, the Man of Steel derives his super-powers partly from the lesser gravity of Earth and partly from the unique ultra solar rays that penetrate Earth day and night.

Comics still hold their ‘powers’ - March 8, 2004
While a great deal of the comic industry revolves around marketable action heroes that can be plugged into Happy Meals and summer blockbusters, there are a few writers who still believe in simple storytelling.
Powers tackles crime fiction in a refreshing and unique way, blending typical comic book fare with the fast pace and smooth transition of a mystery novel.
Although Walker doesn't have any powers of his own, he lives and works in a city full of superheroes and villains and spends most of his days investigating cases that deal with these kinds of people.

"Powers" continues to be one of the best reads in comics; this volume will keep impressing readers by providing a good combination of action, good characterization and dialogue, status quo changing stories, and superb artwork.
The "Powers" comics have been police procedurals applied to superheroes, but the stories have involved wider societal issues.

The mind behind the red hot "Ultimate Spider-Man," "Daredevil" and "Alias" series from Marvel Comics, not to mention the creator owned "Powers" from Image Comics, is a fan favorite and even among his detractors, he is a topic that is guaranteed to create hours of talk.
Looking through an assortment of Bendis' work in comic books last year, it would seem that the one constant is that fans never knew what to expect and that the writer's mandate was almost a "fuck you" to predictability, making sure no one knew the method to his madness.
The evolution of "Powers" in the last year is one that pleases Bendis and he feels it has become the superhero series unlike any other.

X-E - DC Comics Super Powers!
It amazes me that a guy like Hawkman survived so long in a comic world where the continuing trend is to create characters that at least show some semblence of being interesting.

Still, it is a ship that could potentially swing the balance of power to the bad guys, so its time for the forces of good to stop kidding themselves into believing there's anyway to defy defeat without the son of Krypton himself, Superman.

Joseph Witek wrote that comics are a "part of a continuum of visual narrative.
Amy Nyberg wrote, "Comics are unique because they are a blend of words and p ictures in a way not done by any other medium." Joseph Witek indicated one "source of the peculiarity, if not uniqueness, of comics is the interpretation of words and pictures into a narrative form.
The weaknesses mentioned include the domination of superheroes/adventure formula, the perceived associat ion of comics with children, and corporate and marketing limitations that gear comics toward children (although these are obviously not related directly to the medium itself).
