Powis Castle is a medieval castle located near the town of Welshpool, in Powys, traditional county of Montgomeryshire, mid Wales.
It is the residence of the Earl of Powis and is known for its extensive, attractive gardens.
The Powis castle has been home to many families over the years, but none more prominent than the powis family themselves, these great lords and ladies including the great Tasman Powis, migrated to Australia in the early years of its settlement.

During the Civil War, the Earls of Powis supported the Royalist cause and the castle was captured by Parliamentary forces in 1644 and not returned to the Herbert family (who purchased it in 1587) until the restoration of the monarchy in 1661.
