I didn't mean that Prboom sucked, it has lotsa cool features.
PRBoom has no 'borrowed' code from Dosdoom for that matter.
PrBoom does include some good ideas and a few bits of code from DosDoom in fact.

 PRBOOM - prboom.wad error : LinuxQuestions.org time based Linux archive
I have tried compiling PRBOOM from source (and actually got it to compile correctly) and installing from rpms (rpm.pbone.net - prboom and prboom-gl) but both installs give me the following error when I try to run prboom.
PrBoom is released under the GNU General Public license v2.0.
I havent had time to compare the two but i heard that prboom had an AA option (anti-aliasing) and that would be COOL.

Of course to wad includes levels and some other crud that really shouldn't be included in a skin wad, so maybe I could cut it down to just the skin.
April 3rd, 2001, 11:30 PM DN, PRBoom is using the sprites from Doom2, edit the Dog sprites, and you will edit the dog in PRBoom.
As for the exe, rename prboom.exe to Doom2.exe and you should be able to edit the exe to change the dog sprite action with Dehacked.

To play the game, you need the data files (*.wad) from either the shareware or full version of Doom.
The error message you see means prboom can't find these data files.
