 Splendid E-zine: at a glance reviews - June 14, 1999
While his Lords of Acid have absorbed a certain amount of drum'n'bass and gabber influences over the last few years, there's very little on Twenty First Century Skin (okay, maybe "Lady Alcohol") that reveals the existence, let alone the influence, of the Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and all those other contemporary breakbeat scientists.
Khan's music is still the same sex, drugs, techno 'n porno driven series of rave anthems and lyrical chauvinism that it was back in the early nineties, and it's all the more fun now for its stylistic stolidity.
Khan's lyrics, meanwhile, have gained some depth; they still don't have much to say, but no longer originate exclusively from below his belt.

It's as if Praga still hasn't given up on his signature "bondage-friendly" material from the early '90s.
It's obvious Praga is trying to recapture some of his previous glory, but recycling old material and presenting it as new doesn't work.
Without the help of female vocalists such as Jade 4 U or Lady "Darling Nikki" Van Lierop, Praga Khan is just treading water much of the time.

Quite an accomplishment, what they're doing (insert here a refrain that is beginning to get quite boring on how in god's name it is possible that a group with such a status in the States is so underrated over here).
So instead of "Hats Off", Praga Khan threw their hat at it (in dutch the expression "throw your hat at it" means "try casually, without giving it a lot of effort").
What saves the day for this release is that it comes with a second CD that's chockfull of video's and remixes of the best songs of "21st century skin", a record that does justify the current status of Praga Khan in this here Low Countries.
