MacGregor planned the new city as a six block development, and it was quickly populated, being incorporated as McGregor in 1857.

On May 25, 2006 the Dive Team assisted the Prairie du Chien City Dept. removing two large rocks from a boat launch area.
Prairie du Chien Police were notified that citizens witnessed a man stopped his car on the Mississippi River Bridge and throw a large heavy backpack into the river.
Investigation lead officers to believe that the man was Corey Gokey, age 29 of Prairie du Chien.
