Pralaya -- A non-mental, non-astral, non-material state of existence somewhere between death and rebirth, where the life impulse is in abeyance.
Pralaya (Sans.) Dissolution, the opposite of Manvantara, one being the period of rest and the other of full activity (death and life) of a planet, or of the whole universe.

 Pralaya
PRALAYA is a period of observation or repose -- planetary, cosmic, or universal -- the opposite of Manvantara, a period of manifestation.
Pralaya is thus a term applying also to each "obscuration," and even to every cataclysm that puts an end, by fire or by water in turn, to each root-race.
During Pralaya everything differentiated, as every unit, disappears from the phenomenal universe and is merged in, or rather transferred to, the One noumenal.

Pralaya: this is also a Sanskrit compound, formed of laya, from a Sanskrit root li, and the prefix pra.
The cube of salt or of sugar vanishes in the water; it dissolves, changes its form; and this may be taken as a symbol of what pralaya is: a crumbling away, a vanishing away of matter into something else which is yet in it, and surrounds it, and interpenetrates it.
That is pralaya, usually translated as the state of latency, state of rest or repose, between two manvantaras or life cycles.

Creation of the universe as in the Upnishads & modern Physics
In the no-creation state (called maha pralaya) the creative energies and the forces remain in an absolutely subtle and dormant state, and in the creation state they evolve in the form of the universe as we see it today.
The time, that we calculate as the age of something or the passing period of an ongoing event, is the calculation of the aging process of something, or it is a point of determining the past, present or future.
Thus, it would be highly unjust if the soul of some human being is by mistake transferred into a worm’s body or a worm’s soul is transferred into the body of a human being.

We can view pralaya as the work of "abstraction," and as the method which brings the form under the Destroyer aspect of Spirit, working ever under the Law of Attraction, of which the Law of Synthesis is but a branch.
This is of a triple nature and affects the substance of the three vehicles, physical, astral and mental, reducing the form to its primitive substance, and dissipating its atomic structure.
It can be shortened or extended at will, and when the period of pralaya has been decided upon, this thread of light, or of solar fire (note the word "solar") is withdrawn, and gathered back to the atomic subplane where it will still vitalize the permanent atom and hold it connected within the causal body.

In pralaya the soul lives in its own realm with no other purpose than to be the soul.
It is possible to remain in pralaya for a few dozen to thousands of years until such time as a group of souls is sent out of pralaya into incarnation because the time is right and the circumstances suitable.
Another reason for rapid cycles of incarnation may be the necessity of "rounding out" the disciple’s equipment by concentrating one-pointedly for several lives on acquiring some quality otherwise lacking; or to contribute some special quality, perfectly developed in him, to the work of a particular group or nation.

Everything that exists and lives on our Earth was also existent before our present Earth come into being; it was existent in a kind of seed state, just as a whole plant is present in a seed, sleeps in the seed, so to speak, before it takes on form in the outer world.
When the state of perfection is reached, a Pralaya, a sleeping state, occurs once more, and this is followed again by a state of waking and growth.

 Brahma Summary
PRALAYA, or doomsday in the Hindu eschatological scheme, comes at the end of the fourth and worst of the four ages, or yugas, at the end of each kalpa, or day of Brahmā.
In the Vedantic mythology of the late Purāṇas, and in Indian literature in general, recurrent images of doomsday serve to emphasize the insubstantiality of the world; the things that people think of as permanent are constantly destroyed and re-created.
A thoughtful and complex interpretation of the pralaya may be found in Madeleine Biardeau's Études de mythologie hindoue published in the Bulletin de l'École Française d'Extrême Orient (Paris, 1968, 1969, 1971, and 1976).

When Sakti expands or opens herself (unmishati), the universe comes into being, and when she gathers or closes herself up (nimishati), the universe disappears as a manifestation- an endless phenomenon of her total self "opening" and "closing", bringing into existence countless universes.
The Goddess alternates eternally between a phase of manifestation (sristhi) and dissolution or return to potentiality (pralaya); between relative space and time which is curved or circular (vrittakara) and Absolute Space (svasvyata-vyom) and Time, the uter dark depths, Mahakali.
At the time of cosmic dissolution the universe of physical objects is withdrawn again into Sakti, as everything collapses inwards into one dimension: the 'bindu' or seed-state.

Rings, Rounds, And Obscuration -A Theosophical Article by William Q. Judge
And as it is distinctly taught that an obscuration overtakes a globe when the entire race deserts it for another, it is very safe to assume the teaching to be that deserted planets go into obscuration if the races that left them have not completed all their rounds.
As these, in their process of formation, proceed with their development upon this globe—or any other they may be on, cataclysms for that globe take place from time to time, involving either the entire mass or only a portion of it.
And the Moon may illustrate the question about obscuration and pralaya, as she is not in obscuration but is in her final pralaya and is disintegrating as quickly as nature will permit, this earth meanwhile absorbing her particles slowly from day to day while the great cycle of our evolution unerringly goes on.
