ICC not being fair to Murali: Prasanna
Prasanna, who mesmerized batsmen with his teasing off breaks in the sixties and seventies, said the psychological aspect of why a bowler chucks should be studied in detail rather than by the biomechanical factor.
Prasanna said it would be more sensible if the experts study the video of the particular delivery over which the umpires had doubts instead of asking the bowler to reproduce the same in the nets.
Prasanna also favoured the on-field umpire making decisions instead of experts giving their opinion after studying the videos.

Prasanna, who is coaching potential off-spinners at a special camp at the MAC Spin Foundation in Chennai, said the strong points of Kumble's bowling were always his line and length.

Hall of Fame - The Spin Quartet Indian Cricket Fever - Unofficial Indian Cricket News and Views
Prasanna has now emerged as an erudite and articulate columnist, and has also been recently drafted along with the rest of the Spin Quartet by the BCCI to brain storm on reviving the art of spin in the land where some of its greatest exponents flourished.
Prasanna next returned to the West Indies in 1970-71 under Ajit Wadekar, but injured himself in a freak accident, when the non-striker stepped on his palm in his haste to get back to his crease as Prasanna bent to pick up the ball on his follow through.
Thus Prasanna now had to struggle for a place in the side, because for some reason the Indian selectors never wanted to consistently play the two together, even though their styles were as different as could be.

Rediff On The NeT: The Harsha Bhogle column
Prasanna's - or rather Outlook's - timing was perfect because a lot of people have been complaining that the Indian team plays too much cricket and that it was therefore leaving them fatigued.
In such a situation, Prasanna says, "don't complain of fatigue because if you are tired, opt out of a tour and come back recharged".
This is as much Prasanna the cricketer as Prasanna the manager speaking.

 The Telegraph - Calcutta
Calcutta: Erapalli Prasanna, among the all-time great off-spinners, is “surprised” that the legitimacy of Harbhajan Singh’s doosra is being questioned after his action was “rectified” in late 1998.
Prasanna, whose tally of 189 Test victims has just been equalled by Harbhajan, felt working with a biomechanist (as prescribed by the International Cricket Council) isn’t quite the solution.
Asked whether he was willing to help, Prasanna replied: “Definitely… Don’t forget that I worked with Rajesh Chauhan in early 1997 and he appreciated whatever little I did.”

Prasanna, who spoke to Anil Kumble before the tour down under, is extremely pleased that the senior leg-spinner had a wonderful Test series in Australia.
Prasanna, who consumed 189 batsmen in 49 Tests, makes it clear that a spinner has to get three key aspects right in his action and release - pivoting on the toe, twist of the waist, and tweak that imparts spin on the ball.
Prasanna is convinced that any spinner has to be side-on while delivering the ball.

 The Telegraph - Calcutta
Calcutta: Erapalli Prasanna feels the Indians were weighed down by “diplomatic pressures” during the ‘revival’ tour of 1978 which led to their dismal performance but the current lot is “mentally tough enough” to handle such situations.
Prasanna feels Anil Kumble’s fitness will be the key to India’s chances.
Unlike the forthcoming tour where the players will be briefed by government mandarins before their departure, the briefing for the Bishan Singh Bedi-led side was done by the Board and manager Fateh Singh Rao Gaekwad before they left Mumbai.

Prasanna along with Bishen Singh Bedi and Srinivasan Venkataraghavan played for the CCI Eleven while another former great Bhagawat Chandrashekar watched the match from the sidelines because of a foot injury caused by a serious road accident ten years ago.

Prasanna was drafted into the side against Ted Dexter's English side (1961-62) for the last Test at Madras.
I am sure both Bedi and Prasanna known for their skill and deception still have a lot to offer to Indian students of the art of destruction.
The point here is that if India has a history of producing crafty slow bowlers, then why can't it focus on its core competence and have spinners rolling out of the assembly line like it used to.

 Prasanna- sharing knowledge
The legendary Erapalli Prasanna had flown from Bangalore to be at his old comrade-in-arms Bishan Singh Bedi's pre-season camp in Delhi for youngsters.
Prasanna was a revelation, spending time with young spinners, emphasising the virtues of deception.
Over the past few years, I had heard of how Prasanna prevented himself from giving off his best by being in a time warp, of how youngsters would come away from sessions with him haunted by a lack of self-belief.

 Making the ball talk
Prasanna's razor sharp cricketing mind was at work."I tested Chappell with well flighted deliveries, he used to smother it and suddenly I realised he was ahead of the forward short leg.
Not someone to be defeated by the conditions, Prasanna grabbed an astonishing 49 wickets in eight Tests, on the back-to-back tours of Australia and New Zealand in 1967-68, and when the Indians defeated the Kiwis, it was their first away series Test win.
There was never a dull moment when Prasanna held the cherry, drawing the batsmen out with his flight, and deceiving them with his loop and turn, bounce and nip.

When Pak buried the Spin Trio
Prasanna had figures of 0/94, Bedi 1/109 and Chandra 2/130, tempting one to believe that this spin trio bowled like tigers on pitches tailor-made for spin from day one like at Chepauk and Eden Gardens (Kolkata), but were exposed on good wickets.
Pakistan scored a massive 503 for 8 in the first innings, with the spin trio notching 'centuries' -- Prasanna (1/123), Bedi (3/ 124) and Chandra 4/130 (he picked up three wickets when Pakistan went for big hits looking for an early declaration).
Fortunately for India, Gavaskar and Chauhan, on a flat wicket, gave India a solid start of 97, and Gavaskar was out only at the score of 248 for 3, making 89, unlucky to york himself while coming down the wicket to drive left-arm spinner Iqbal Qasim.

Talking about that particular type of delivery Prasanna said: "The doosra is a variation in off-spin bowling.
You can call it an off-spinner’s googly, but the execution should be correct." He added: "I have seen that 80 to 90 per cent of the academy boys tend to bend their arms while delivering the doosra.

On November 27, 1993, he took 6 wickets for 12 runs in an ODI against the West Indies at Calcutta, a new record for best bowling figures by an Indian, a record which has stayed for 10 years.
He took his first 50 test wickets in just 10 test matches making him the only Indian bowler to do so.

Rediff On The NeT: Prasanna comes to Chauhan's defence
Prasanna, one of the top exponents of off-spin in the world, who along with Bishen Singh Bedi and Bhagwat Chandrashekhar formed the 'spin troika' in the late 60s, says he and former England off-spinner Fred Titmus studied the video footage provided by the ICC in London and found nothing wrong with his action.
Prasanna says though he had been asked by the BCCI to accompany Chauhan to London to study his action, the BCCI and ICC did not repose any faith in him.
Former Test player Erapalli Prasanna feels not enough has been done for the off-spinner, who has been in and out of the Indian cricket team for a suspect bowling action.
