  Pratinas - LoveToKnow 1911
PRATINAS (the quantity of the second vowel is doubtful), one of the oldest tragic poets of Athens, was a native of Phlius in Peloponnesus.
Pratinas was also the introducer of satyric dramas as a species of entertainment distinct from tragedy, in which the rustic merry-makings and the extravagant dances of the satyrs were retained.
Pratinas was also a writer of dithyrambs and the choral odes called hyporchemata (a considerable fragment of one of these is preserved in Athenaeus xiv.

Dictionary of Greek and Roman Biography and Mythology, page 515 (v. 3)
The innovation of Pratinas, like all the great improvements of that age of the development of the drama, was adopted by his contemporaries ; but Pratinas is distinguished, as might be expected, by the large proportion of his satyrie dramas ; having composed, according to Suidas, fifty plays, of which thirty-two were satyric.
Pratinas ranked high among the lyric, as well as the dramatic poets of his age.
Pratinas may perhaps be considered to have shared with his contemporary Lasus the honour of founding the Athenian school of dithyrambic poetry.

 The Origin of Tragedy: Introduction
Aristotle, therefore, is not referring to the first beginnings of Tragedy in the sixth century, but to the state in which Aeschylus found it and from which he lifted it.
This harmonizes well with the fact that Thespis, Phrynicus, Pratinas, and Choerilus were all termed dancers by the ancients and that Aeschylus invented many new figures, the fact being that the drama was still merely an operatic performance, such as we shall find in the dramas of India, Burma, China, and Japan.
But the Epic is not the oldest form of poetry.

At the beginning of the fifth century BC Athens' Dionysian festival became more organized, and Aeschylus began presenting tragedies in 499 BC along with Thespis, Pratinas, Choerilus, and Phrynichus, who was fined for reminding Athenians of their grief for the defeat by the Persians in The Capture of Miletus.
