  Prayer Circle- Encyclopedia of Mormonism
The prayer circle is a part of Latter-day Saint temple worship, usually associated with the Endowment ceremony.
Other prayer circles were formed for priesthood groups: stake presidencies and high councils, priesthood quorums, ward bishoprics-all of them formed under the authority of the First Presidency and generally in response to specific requests.
Apart from the Endowment ceremony, the only prayer circles still held are part of the weekly meeting of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve and the monthly meeting of all General Authorities in the Salt Lake Temple.

However, prayer circles became the main purpose of meetings of the Anointed Quorum on May 26, 1843.
In addition, local stake and ward prayer circles were organized and conducted until May 3, 1978, when the First Presidency announced that all prayer circles should be discontinued except those performed in a temple as part of an Endowment ceremony.

 Prayer Circle
The prayer circle was formed several years ago as a result of the experiences of one of the Disciple Bible study classes.
Each request is assigned to a specific member of the circle who takes the primary responsibility for contacting the person who submitted the request, to inform that person that the prayer has been received and to be receptive to details, developments and other concerns.
If a prayer has been requested for the benefit of another, the circle member will ask if a card should be sent or other contact made so that the individuals or families are aware that prayers are being offered on their behalf.

The Universal Prayer Circle for Animals
The Prayer Circle for Animals (PCA) is a non-denominational circle of people devoted to using the power of prayer, meditation, and/or focused thought to liberate all animals from human oppression and exploitation.
There are no requirements to joining the Prayer Circle for Animals other than an interest in helping animals through prayer and a willingness to commit to prayerfully repeating at least once daily this Universal Prayer for the Animals in a heartfelt mood of thanksgiving for the ongoing manifestation of love and peace on earth.
Affirmative prayer is different from some prayer styles, because rather than asking for changes in the way animals are treated, affirmative prayer affirms the understanding that all living beings are manifestations of Infinite Spirit and that the desired change already exists in truth and is waiting to be manifested in the material world.

 Prayer Circles3: Biblical Or Not?
The use of prayer circles by the world's religions is now widespread, and paralleling their rise in popularity is the practice of witchcraft.
The geographical points of the prayer circle are extended to all of creation, earthly and cosmic, which correlates with the belief in witchcraft that through the use of the circle, one is "connected" to the universe in some mysterious way.
The unity in a prayer circle is partially created through inclusiveness (members are ordinary men and women) and exclusiveness (only those in the circle have ears to hear.) As in the witches' circle, the circle itself brings protection from evil while enabling unity through the powers of the four directions.

 The Prayer Circle
All around the circle each person raises his or her left arm to the square and rests it on the shoulder of the person to their left.
Everything in the Prayer Circle suggests to the mind a gathering in the Name of Jesus Christ, from the manner of gathering, to the signs made, right down to the very marks worn in the clothing of all participants.
Therefore, if the members of the circle have “the best of feelings” and are united in their faith, and have the pure desire to communicate with God, there is no reason why the Lord should not be pleased to appear in their midst.

Prayer circle - Education - Information - Educational Resources - Encyclopedia - Music
Ritual ceremonies around an altar are common in paganism, and ritual prayer dances around an altar were practiced by early Christians, especially Gnostics, before the practice was condemned as a heresy by the Second Council of Nicaea in 787 A.D. See Nibley, "The Early Christian Prayer Circle" at 41.
Much later, Protestants began conducting informal prayer circles.
The reason for this change is unknown, but could have resulted in part from the explosive growth of the Church, and the fact that prayer circles were usually organized by a member of the First Presidency or the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

In forming the prayer circle one excludes the outer world, as families holding the Passover feast form closed circles with their backs all turned on the outer world, or as the true initiates form the inner or "esoteric" circle, leaving all the rest to the outer or "exoteric" world.
Though private prayer circles would seem to be out of the question (quackery, magic, and witchcraft made use of them), the members of the circle are never those of a special social rank, family, guild, or profession—they are ordinary men and women of the church, with a high priest presiding.
