ISS: Chapter 9: Two Versions of Psycho-Physical Parallelism: C. J. Ducasse
Yet, harmony obtains between the succession of ideas in a given monad, and the motions of it and of the other monads associated with it in what we call its body.
The explanation of the harmony between the behavior of the two is of course that it was preestablished by the maker of the clocks, who so constructed and so set them that they would keep time to each other.
Similarly, on the Leibnitzian view, the harmony which obtains between the series of a man's bodily states and the series of his mental states is due to its having been preestablished by man's maker, God.

In philosophy of mind, the belief that the mental and physical are deeply different in kind: thus the mental is at least not identical with the physical.
Preestablished harmony: This doctrine was formulated by Leibniz and is basically Cartesian interactionist dualism without the interaction.
Both occasionalism and preestablished harmony are considered instances of parallelism: the view that the mental and physical realms co-occur but are not causally connected.

Instead of shrugging it off like usual, I felt the urge to think about how it could be explained by Preestablished Harmony.
Preestablished Harmony is a philosophical theory with respect to dualism which is generally viewed as bandage work by most modern philosophers.
I am, however, one of the few who believes that Preestablished Harmony explains most things in our world, so when thinking about Deja Vu, I felt it was my moral obligation to explain how such an event could occur.

That the harmony Emerson speaks of is pre-established, suggests that it is something one must get back to, to rediscover.
If the ray that falls on the eye is read as the memory of pre-established harmony that one has gained access to, one way to read poems is as “testimonies” to that ray.
It is a place of solitude in which one (including and especially, the poet) can do a number of things, one of which is escaping the trappings of society and hearing the voices that become faint and inaudible as we enter the world.

And it seems to me that the emphasis placed at present upon the essential unity of society is apt to leave one with the impression that the harmony of individual interests is somehow miraculously preestablished.
If we are to show that, in spite of all this, the interests of individuals are still "essentially" in harmony, then it is for us to point out that "essential" attribute of the individual - and of the individual himself - from which this harmony may be derived and to justify the derivation.
But let the interests in question be as personal as you please, and let the harmony of interests be spiritually perfect; I say that the principle of harmony is still the same as before, only now for the first time fully realized as a harmony of personally concrete ends.

 History of Philosophy 60
With a view to effecting this universal harmony of systems, Leibniz adopted a theory of reality which centers on the doctrine of monads, the principle of preëstablished harmony, and the law of continuity.
Leibniz answers by postulating a divine arrangement by virtue of which the monads have from the beginning been so adapted to one another that the changes of one monad, although immanent, are parallel to the changes in every other monad of the cosmic system.
When we inquire into the ultimate foundation of this harmony, and look for the reason of the divine arrangement on which the harmony of the universe depends, we find an answer in Leibniz' optimistic principle, the lex melioris.

And it is Rousseau’s belief in a preestablished harmony, a universe at least in blueprint, that allowed him to believe that the relation of personhood to citizenship is a problem and not a dilemma or a predicament.
While explicit deistic claims of preestablished harmony are no longer offered by modern thinkers like Dewey and Freire, the fundamental assumptions established by Rousseau continue to reappear intact.
One cannot — in capitalist society — have a harmonious fit between citizenship and personhood, for the basic rules of capitalism institutionalize the employer’s right to rob the employee.

Mental states and bodily states correspond at every moment due to this preestablished harmony.
For example, if two clocks seem to be keeping perfect time, there are three ways this could arise: (1) through mutual influence; (2) through constant adjustments by the mechanic who cares for them; and (3) through their own inbuilt individual exactitude.
This was, however, because at that time the law of nature, which affirms also the conservation of the same total direction in the motion of matter, was not known.

This view is very similar to Occasionalism which holds that God causes each particular mental event at the time when a physical event happens, except that here God established the parallel courses of mind and body before the actual occurance of either.
This is referred to as the preestablished harmony of mind and body.

When your mind decides that it would like your body to be on the other side of the room it is just a coincidence that your body walks over there.
Although the origin of this view can be traced back to G.W. Leibniz, he is also implicated in Preestablished Harmony, a view that implicates God in the correlation between mind and body.
The problem with Preestablished Harmony is that it presupposes that there is a God.

Hardback: $46.00 SH Paperback: $23.95 SH Three general accounts of causation stand out in early modern philosophy: Cartesian interactionism, occasionalism, and Leibniz's preestablished harmony.
They address them both as a means for answering specific questions regarding causal relations and in their relation to one another, in particular, comparing occasionalism and the preestablished harmony as responses to Descartes's metaphysics and physics and the Cartesian account of causation.
Steven Nadler is Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and author of Malebranche and Ideas (Oxford, 1992), Arnauld and the Cartesian Philosophy of Ideas (Princeton, 1989), and editor of Malebranche: Philosophical Selections (Hackett, 1992).

The Argument from Preestablished Harmony: Since there cannot be causal connections between substances (monads), there must be a God as the source of the harmony in the world.

But first let me note a truly curious feature of the book brought to my attention by Adam Kotsko.
No wonder that Leibniz is one of the predominant philosophical references of the cyberspace theorists: what reverberates today is not only his dream of a universal computing machine, but the uncanny resemblance between his ontological vision of monadology and today's emerging cyberspace community in which global harmony and solipsism strangely coexist.
That is to say, does our immersion into cyberspace not go hand in hand with our reduction to a Leibnizean monad which, although "without windows" that would directly open up to external reality, mirrors in itself the entire universe?
