		As part of the test development process, the College Board conducted a survey in 2004 of public and private two- and four-year institutions to find out if a Precalculus examination would be a viable replacement for CLEP Algebra-Trigonometry and CLEP Trigonometry.
		The Precalculus examination assesses student mastery of skills and concepts required for success in a first-semester calculus course.
		If your institution has already established a credit-granting policy for CLEP Precalculus, please tell us about that policy so that we may include your institution in our College Search and inform potential test-takers that you will recognize the examination.

		This latest edition in the highly respected Swokowski/Cole precalculus series retains the elements that have made it so popular with instructors and students alike: its exposition is clear, the time-tested exercise sets feature a variety of applications, its uncluttered layout is appealing, and the difficulty level of problems is appropriate and consistent.
		There are other so-called precalculus books out there that are watered down, that don't cover as many topics, and that have much easier homework -- as a calculus instructor, I can promise you that these books will not teach you what you need to know to pass calculus.
		The real difficulty these students are experiencing is that there is too much material to be covered in precalculus to finish in a single semester.

		The previous paragraph could be used to describe nearly every precalculus text on the planet, so it fits into the category of obvious, but necessary.
