Predestination may sometimes be used to refer to other, materialistic, spiritualist, non-theistic or polytheistic ideas of determinism, destiny, fate, doom, or karma.
Predestination is not identical to Calvinism; but it is perhaps the most controversial element of that family of theological thinking which descends from John Calvin.
Predestination always involves issues of the Creator's personality and will; and consequently, the different versions of the doctrine of predestination go hand in hand with appropriately different conceptions of the contribution any creature is able to make toward its own present condition, or future destiny.

The same is true of the numerous predestined who, though outside the pale of the true Church of Christ, yet depart from this life in the state of grace as catechumens, Protestants in good faith, schismatics, Jews, Mahommedans, and pagans.
The counterpart of the predestination of the good is the reprobation of the wicked, or the eternal decree of God to cast all men into hell of whom He foresaw that they would die in the state of sin as his enemies.
Between these two extremes the Catholic dogma of predestination keeps the golden mean, because it regards eternal happiness primarily as the work of God and His grace, but secondarily as the fruit and reward of the meritorious actions of the predestined.

This is called "double predestination." However there is still a difference in how he works with those who are saved and those who are not.
Double predestination emphasizes the fact that God chooses both results equally, even though he is involved differently with those he elects and those he does not.
Single predestination reflects the way God works with people: he works directly with those who are justified, but simply passes over the rest.

here you find lutheran view of predestination
The British monk Pelagius denied Augustine's view of predestination in order to affirm that salvation is achieved by an act of free will.
Rather, we view predestination in terms of a positive-negative relationship.
In religion, this view may be called predestination ; it holds that whether our souls go to Heaven or Hell is determined before we are born and is independent of our good deeds.
