Preki moved to the United States in 1985 to play indoor soccer, which he would play for nine years, until 1992, in the original MISL where he was named an all-star each of his seven seasons, and again from 1994 to 1995 in the CISL.
Preki resumed outdoor play beginning with MLS's inaugural season in 1996 when he joined the Kansas City Wizards, for whom he has played for all but one season in his entire MLS career.
Preki is the only player to have won the MLS MVP Award twice, winning in 1997 and 2003, and is also the current all-time league leader in points scored (270 on 79 goals and 112 assists, plus another 25 points on ten goals and five assists in the playoffs).
