	Preprint - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		A preprint is a draft of a scientific paper that has not yet been published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.
		As peer review takes quite some time (publication delay is at least several months and sometimes exceeds a year), preprints are the medium of choice to communicate current results within a scientific community.
		The preprint culture was also very prominent in computer science, and this resulted in a different slant on dissemination of scientific research.

	Preprint Servers: Pushing the Envelope of Electronic Scholarly Publishing
		A preprint accessible over the Web may also be referred to as an “e-print.” Preprints also cover papers that authors have submitted for journal publication, but for which no publication decision has been reached, or even papers electronically posted for peer consideration and comment before submission for publication.
		Atkins commented that many of the preprints, after all, become published articles, which would result in considerable duplication; but she quickly added — and this is crucial for searchers — that some preprints never appear in journals.
		The Topology Atlas Preprints, a server at York University in Toronto [http://at.yorku.ca/topology/preprint.htm], indicates that most preprint servers expect authors to submit their e-print to a journal or to be in the process of submitting it.

		The HEP (high-energy physics) database, maintained by the SLAC and DESY libraries, is the granddaddy of preprint databases.
		The CERN preprints server provides CERN preprints and images of preprints received at CERN since 1994.
		This is the direct line to the KEK Information Service System (KISS), which lists preprints received at KEK since 1975 and has scanned images for those in the range 1987 to 1995.

		Since January 1996, the "Preprint Abstracts" has made papers appearing in the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics Preprint Series available to the astronomical community.
