  Denmark Township Historical Society
Denmark Township is at the southern tip of Washington County, south of 60th Street (the boundary for the town of Afton) and east of Cottage Grove.
Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa and the Dakotas had been part of the former Wisconsin Territory, and the area was left without a governing body.
The Whitaker farm on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi river in Denmark Township is "the oldest family farm in Minnesota," according to the Minnesota Historical Society.

Three Prescott juveniles, 12 and 13 years old, were apprehended and referred to Pierce County Social Services department when they admitted to Police Chief Myron Dehning the break-in and vandalizing of at least two cottages in Prescott belonging to the Shiely family.
The crew of five EMTs were at the residence very quickly and mother was quickly checked out and she and dad were loaded into the ambulance for a short trip to the hospital.

  Minnesota Territorial Pioneers
Moses K. Armstrong, was born Sept. 20, 1832, in Milan, Ohio, and emigrated to Minnesota territory in 1855.
In 1857 he was appointed a United States land surveyor in southwestern Minnesota, and in 1858 was a delegate to the first state convention, which nominated Henry Sibley for governor.
In the spring of 1862, when the Fifth Minnesota regiment was being formed at Fort Snelling, Enoch, with two of his young friends, presented himself as ready to engage in military service, but was rejected on account of his extreme youth and frail body.

 Eureka Township
District 47 is the only one of the eight school districts formed in the township during the past century, in which classes are still being taught.
However, it appears that the township was organized May 18, 1858 and the formal meeting, for the organization and election of officers, was held at the barn of Issac Van Doren in section 9.
As this informal history story of Eureka township draws to a close, we wish to pay honor to the pioneers of each generation, who worked, hoped, sacrificed and prayed that we might have the Eureka which we love today.

Councillor Kathleen Thur, who is also chair of the township recreation and ball committees, suggested Dejeet organize a committee "for the betterment of Algonquin." She said the canteen proposal would be considered by council.
Councilor Beckstead doesn't seem to have Prescott's best interests at heart as she has said that money was never the issue and she will not vote in favour of anything other than her $2 million edifice on the downtown parking lot.
The township stopped cashing the family's cheques, and they were notified in May they would have to pay up, or the property would be registered for sale, she explained.

Strong, who was an old acquaintance of mine, I first came to what is now Otto township in December, 1845, having in view the purchase of the pine timber land (at the head-waters of the creek branches), and also the location of a colony of eastern farmers and lumberman.
He then removed to Minnesota and engaged in farming and lumbering there, with the exception of one year, until 1877, when he returned to Otto and has since resided on the old homestead, a part of which he cleared and improved.
He was in the lumber business in Otto township, the first eight years of his residence, and for a number of years worked at his trade in Olean, N.Y. Since 1878 he has been a producer of oil, and has twelve producing wells on his farm, seven of which he opened.

The committee asked Prescott council to consider signing a lease and issuing a tax receipt which would be transferred to the food bank once it is incorporated and a registered charity.
A group of township residents, many of whom live in the central and northern sections of the municipality, has consistently been attending council meetings and voicing displeasure about a lot of what township officials have and supposedly have not been doing.
Township council had also been facing the possibility of raising the ire of a portion of the southern end of the township ­ Riverview Heights, to be specific.

In Walnut Township the whole Republican ticket was elected with the exception of John C. Roberts for trustee, who was defeated by A. Thompson.
The township election came off according to proclamation and J. Roberts, the Republican nominee, was defeated and A. Thompson, the Democratic nominee, was elected in his stead by seven majority.
Assessor Thompson has sent in the assessment rolls of Walnut Township, showing an increase in population for the past year of one hundred and eighty-nine; total taxable real estate $168,507, and the total wheat acreage 1,927.

Joe was born in Duluth to Charles and Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Barber and lived in Midway Township and Proctor most of his life.
Duck is also survived by his wife Robin, son Jake, his parents Clifford and Betty of Silver Bay, brothers-in-law David, Ron and Brad Kolenda, all of Munger, and Richard Kolenda of Proctor, a sister and two brothers, a sister-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Sawtooth Mountain Cemetery in Beaver Bay Township.

 Denmark Township Historical Society
Prescott worked and lived with Native Americans, yet, ironically, was one of the first individuals killed in the 1862 uprising along the Minnesota river.
Our mission is to preserve the stories, traditions and historic buildings of Denmark Township to benefit its citizens of today and in the future.
Currently we are working on acquiring the township's remaining schoolhouse (The Valley Schoolhouse District #34, built in 1852.) The goal is to renovate it and make it available for educational purposes.

The fledgling State of Minnesota, less than five years old, had already sent several regiments to fight in the Civil War.
Properly a state expense when the war effort was directed by the state itself, the expenses continued even after the federal government took control of the conflict.
Instead of establishing its own process for claims arising from the Conflict, the Minnesota Legislature adopted a memorial to the President of the U.S. praying that Minnesota citizens be reimbursed out of the annuities that would have been paid, had the conflict not occurred.
