  Prescribed Burn Statutes
This section is not to be construed as prohibiting the use of properly authorized prescribed burning to improve the biological function of land or to assist in the restoration of desired vegetation.
Wildland vegetation management burning is the use of prescribed burning conducted by a public agency, or through a cooperative agreement or contract involving a public agency, to burn land predominantly covered with chaparral, trees, grass, or standing brush.
Prescribed burning operations on state responsibility lands conducted under the terms of a permit issued by the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection when the purpose of the operation is prevention of high-intensity wildland fires through reduction of the volume and continuity of wildland fuels.

Controlled burn - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In Florida, during the drought in 1998, catastrophic wildfires burned a number of homes.

 Prescribed Fire
Prescribed burning is highly recommended for wildlife habitat management where loblolly, shortleaf, longleaf, or slash pine is the primary overstory species.
Burning techniques can be modified along roads and in other heavily used areas to ensure low flame heights, which in turn will reduce crown scorch and bark char while still opening up the stand and giving an unrestricted view.
Prescribed burning, however, does not automatically help Perpetuate plant and animal species because fires are not necessarily conducted during the same season in which the site historically burned.
