Roh Tae-woo (born December 4, 1942 in Daegu, South Korea), a Korean general and politician.
He was the sixth president of South Korea (1988–1993).
Roh was hand-picked by the ex-general Chun Doo-hwan to succeed him as president, triggering large pro-democracy rallies in Seoul and other cities in 1987.

President Bush and South Korean President Roh Moo Hyun yesterday stressed their common objective of getting North Korea to return to disarmament talks, putting aside tactical differences on how hard to push the North Korean government to terminate its nuclear programs.
A senior South Korean official said Roh was referring to a debate over a joint military plan known as OPLAN 5029, which prepares for the collapse of North Korea.
In the past, South Korean officials have pressed the United States to show greater flexibility in the proposal; for example, participating in the energy assistance by paying some of the costs of administration.

North Korea calls July 27 the "Day of Victory in the Great Fatherland Liberation War", and KCNA says the anniversary is being celebrated as far away as Uganda and Peru.

K.J. Choi, who was one of Gary Player’s Captain’s Picks for the 2003 Presidents Cup, made a big jump in the International Team standings for this year’s competition with his victory Sunday in the SK Telecom Open.
Choi, who beat Fred Couples and Andrew Bunkle by five strokes at the tournament in his native South Korea, jumped from 13th to ninth in the standings.
The 2005 Presidents Cup will be held Sept. 20-25 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Prince William County, Va. The U.S. holds a 3-1-1 edge in the competition, with the tie coming two years ago in George, South Africa.

The two former presidents were later separately charged with mutiny and treason for their roles in the 1979 coup and 1980 massacre of civilians in Kwangju.
Both were convicted in August 1996 of treason, mutiny and corruption; Chun was sentenced to death, later commuted to life in jail, while Roh's 22-1/2-year jail sentence was reduced to 17 years on appeal.
