A second Presidential Unit Citation was awarded for actions in the Saar River area.
The Sixth Ranger Battalion was constituted on December 16th, 1940 as the 98th Field Artillery Battalion, and later converted and redesignated as a Ranger unit on September 25th, 1944 at Port Moresby, New Guinea.
The entire battalion was awarded a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation for actions between October 17th, 1944 and July 4th, 1945.
