The purpose of the presidential primary is to elect delegates to a political party’s national convention.
To appear on the primary ballot, district delegates must file petitions signed by either 1000 enrolled voters in the party in the congressional district or signed by at least 0.5% of the enrolled voters in the party in the congressional district, whichever is less.
Additionally, presidential candidates must file a nominating petition with signatures of 5000 enrolled voters in the party in order for those delegates and alternate delegates committed to that presidential candidate to appear on the primary election ballot.
