The paper, along with the Evening Express is published by Aberdeen Journals Ltd. It has a circulation of approximately 90,000 copies, which is the largest for a regional UK daily newspaper.
When not in use publishing The Press and Journal, Aberdeen Evening Express or the various free sheet newspapers owned and distributed by Aberdeen Journals Ltd., the presses are put to use producing the News of the World under contract.
The 1989-90 Journals industrial action by employees, and the ferocity with which Aberdeen Journals reacted has been credited with the downfall of unionised workforces in Scottish journalism.

The Press and Journal's publisher, Aberdeen Journals, has been cleared of breaching the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act after it named the teenager charged with the murder of schoolgirl Jodi Jones.
The Journal was originally cleared in February after reporting that Luke Mitchell had been charged, but the Crown appealed against the decision.
Press and Journal editor Derek Tucker said: "The Crown's case always seemed to be a non-starter and they have simply wasted public money on what was always going to be a lost cause."

The Reforesting Scotland Annual Gathering 2006 was held in Falkland, Fife on 6-8 Oct. The theme was Low-energy living, tying in with Reforesting Scotland journal no. 35 - ‘Rethinking Energy’.
Reforesting Scotland had a stall within the Woodmarket, promoting non-timber forest harvests and decked out with May blossom, woodland salads, and some very strokable felt, as well as the full range of Reforesting Scotland publications and information.

The Scotland Act 1998 removed the guarantee of at least 71 Scottish seats at Westminster (there are now 72) and requires the Boundary Commission for Scotland to determine the level of Scottish representation by applying the same electoral quota as in England.
The Scotland Act also provides for the Scottish Parliament constituencies to be the same as the UK Parliament constituencies, except for Orkney and Shetland which each have their own MSP.
The Scotland Act presently provides for an automatic reduction in the size of the Scottish Parliament when the number of MPs at Westminster representing Scottish constituencies is reduced.
