Crown Graphic 4x5 as a Field Camera
I have a monorail camera for most of my 4x5 photography, but the Crown Graphic seemed to be a fine option for times when it is impractical to pack a monorail.
Of course, all of the movements described above assume that the camera is mounted on the tripod for a horizontal composition.
If you are used to working with a monorail camera that allows full movements on the front and back standards, most of the movements you regularly employ are either not available on the Crown, or difficult to implement.

Is a 4x5 Press Camera right for me?
My main concern revolves around w hether a press camera in this format is feasible for my subjects (portraits, oft en candid, and some casual landscapes)and shooting style (don't spend more than a couple of minutes agonizing over a shot, often don't carry a tripod).
The idea of using a 4X5 press camera as they were originally used is romantic but given the advances in film grain, speed, and quality, is not really practical.
The nice thing about these cameras is that when you feel like slowing down, you can use them very much as you would a folding field camera, albeit with a little less in the way of movements or bellows draw.

PRESS RELEASE Camera-Phones Make Better Prints Than Single-Use Cameras   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Prints from images obtained by camera-phones with resolutions of 640 x 480 (two models), one megapixel, and two megapixels were compared to those from a single use (OTUC) film camera, a single use (OTUC) digital camera, and digital point-and-shoot cameras of one-, two- and three-megapixel resolution.
The evaluation shows that camera-phones deliver acceptable 4 x 6 snapshots -- suitable for the family fridge or photo album -- in virtually all cases, and the higher-resolution models deliver keepsake quality prints -- suitable for frames on the mantle or wall -- across the board.
The study concludes that the implications of these surprising results for standalone digital cameras are serious, but the implications for single-use cameras are profound.
