Topic: Pressure point

Pressure point - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pressure on these points can generate nervous impulses in the case of a nerve, or can occlude blood flow through an artery in the case of blood vessels.
There are pressure points in the neck but these must be used by experts, the blood supply to the brain is delicate and can be disturbed if pressure is applied incorrectly.
The correct point is determined by finding a pulse on a casualty - this could be in the wrist, the arm, or the groin and is the position where a rhythmical pulsation can be felt - similar to that felt in the wrist when taking one's own pulse.

Pressure - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pressure (symbol: p) is the force per unit area acting on a surface in a direction perpendicular to that surface.
The pressure of a moving fluid can be measured using a Pitot probe, or one of its variations such as a Kiel probe or Cobra probe, connected to a manometer.
Blood pressure is still measured in millimetres of mercury in most of the world, and lung pressures in centimeters of water are still common.

Mind that once a pressure point is performed, it must never be released : while it maintaints the blood in the rest of the body, the limb is poorly oxygenated (anoxia), so the muscles controlling the blood vessels are relaxed (vasodilatation).
But several pressure points are readily accessible regardless of what your assailant is wearing, especially certain points on the neck (some of which are instantly fatal), points on the face (again, some of which are fatal whether instantly or delayed), points on the legs or arms, head, back or chest.
Nine pressure points are located on the heart meridian, the first of which is near the armpit and the last is on the little finger.

Encyclopedia article: Pressure point   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Pressure points are points on the body that produce a known reaction (reflex (An automatic instinctive unlearned reaction to a stimulus)) by either hitting, touching, or rubbing them.
In this case, the only way to stop the bleeding is to make a pressure point, or a tourniquet (Bandage that stops the flow of blood from an artery by applying pressure).
When the pressure point must be released, it is possible to take over with the other hand, with another bystander, with the casualty himself (only for a short time), or with a tourniquet.

 Air Pressure
The pressure acts perpendicular (normal) to the wall; the tangential (shear) component of the force is related to the viscosity of the gas.
The pressure measured in the direction of the motion is called the total pressure and is equal to the sum of the static and dynamic pressure as described by Bernoulli's equation.
Although pressure itself is a scalar, we can define a pressure force to be equal to the pressure (force/area) times the surface area in a direction perpendicular to the surface.

Next, it concerned me that pressure point fighting techniques empowered martial artists to inflict very serious injuries if the techniques were incorrectly applied especially by a person who has an incomplete or inadequate understanding of their consequences.
A skilled pressure point fighter knows that a blow to a certain pressure point will cause localised damage as well as damage to bodily functions and organs nowhere near the place of the point which was struck.
A pressure point fighter strikes those points at his or her peril because of the risk of death to his or her opponent.

 PRESSURE POINT FIGHTING
The general method for this is to begin with the points on the arm or leg, then continue attacking points along the same meridian, ending with the body or head (usually the first or last point in the meridian).
Pressure point fighting uses the bodies energy meridians (stopping or opening) to control or heal the opponent.
There are several points on the arms, legs, torso, neck, head, etc. The points on the limbs are extremely helpful in a fight, because when your opponent strikes at you, the target is right there in your control.

This is the strict definition for being included in a clinical study of fibromyalgia, but tender points may change from time to time, and may worsen or get better in the cyclical way that this syndrome seems to work.
Remember, a tender point has to be painful at palpation, not just "tender." When pressed, these areas tend to feel like bruises in various stages of healing.
Tender points are caused by an unknown mechanism, and their severity is often cyclic.

 Pressure Point Therapies
Foot reflexology is a therapeutic approach that applies pressure to specific areas on the feet in order to locate and correct problems in other areas of the body.
Pressure can be applied to various parts of the body using fingers, thumbs, palms, elbows, knees, and feet.
Pressure is applied to these areas to relieve pain, tension, or spasms and to reprogram the signal.

From the point of view of modern medicine, massaging the shoulder and back can dilate blood vessels of the body surface, remarkably improve blood circulation, enhance metabolism of the human body, relax tired muscles and greatly benefits health of the body.

Atmospheric Pressure: force exerted by the weight of the air
Atmospheric pressure is defined as the force per unit area exerted against a surface by the weight of the air above that surface.
Atmospheric pressure is measured with an instrument called a "barometer", which is why atmospheric pressure is also referred to as barometric pressure.
Meteorologists use a metric unit for pressure called a millibar and the average pressure at sea level is 1013.25 millibars.

Mouse Shoulder, Pressure Point Therapy, Muscle Massage, Trigger Point Release
Light pressure is not effective for treating Trigger Points, and in fact may increase spasms as the muscle tries to protect itself, leading to increased and more constant pain.
The Trigger Point restricts motion of the muscles and decreases circulation, depriving the muscle of nutrients and oxygen and resulting in a collection of metabolic waste that cannot be properly filtered away.
The advantage of the Pressure Pointer is that while applying the pressure to the Trigger Points, the muscles involved are able to be fully relaxed during treatment, allowing deeper penetration and the ability to stretch.

DOING FREEDOM! -- Pressure Point Awareness, by Carl Bussjaeger   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-14)
Some pressure points have no valid defensive application, since the officer must already have a degree of control over the subject in order to apply the pressure correctly.
Pressure is applied to achieve what law enforcement euphemistically calls "pain compliance": Do what the officer tells you to do, and he'll stop inflicting excruciating pain.
Make a note of those points designated as "pain compliance." If a cop uses one of those to abuse you, be prepared to have your lawyer ask the officer in court why he felt it necessary to apply pain after he already rendered you manageable.

First, they are supposed to help you choose a second point to attack after you've hit one and the opponent moves unpredictably--you are supposed to analyze the available targets and select one that follows a rule and strike it.
The other major rule is dictated by the ways attacker and defender naturally interact and also by the greater effectiveness of points on the head and neck--"actual" rule two is move from points on the limbs to those closer to the head and neck.
As another example, the knee kick created in the naihanchi bunkai (from the kata position of crane stance, toes pointed at the opposite knee "showing the target") is an extrapolation that violates the precise kata-bunkai relationship he mandates earlier on.

The boiling point ELEVATION for the solution will be 0.52 °C (higher than the boiling point of pure water.) A fair set of multiple choice answers would include T (boiling point) and exclude vapor pressure.

The Xsensor® Pressure Mapping System measures the interface pressure between a body and the surface on which it is lying, using a measuring sheet comprised of 684 individual measurement points.
The result is a computer-generated pictorial representation of how the surface being tested conforms to the body, the location of interfacial pressure points between the surface and the body, and the relative degree of severity of such pressure points.
These tests also have consistently demonstrated that pressure point frequency and severity generally decrease as Sleep Number® beds are adjusted to softer firmness settings (such as a Sleep Number® 30).
