Pressure Sensor Application Notes   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
The advantage of using a differential pressure sensor for this measurement instead of two gage sensors is that accuracy is always specified as a percentage of the sensor's full-scale reading.
You also can use a differential pressure sensor as a gage sensor inside a closed test chamber; you must vent the low or negative pressure port to the outside atmosphere rather than vent it inside the test chamber where the ambient pressure may be different or variable.
Pressure Sensors of many different types are used in a typical test stand.

In a charge mode pressure sensor used with a voltage amplifier, the leakage rate is fixed by values of capacitance and resistance in the sensor, by low-noise cable, and by the external source follower voltage amplifier used.
In the case of a charge mode pressure sensor used with a charge amplifier, the leakage rate is fixed by the electrical feedback resistor and capacitor in the charge amplifier.
Flush mounting of pressure sensors in a plate or wall is sometimes desirable for minimizing turbulence, avoiding a cavity effect, or avoiding an increase in a chamber volume.

 Bourdon Tube Pressure Sensor
The end that pressure is applied to is mounted in such a way that it cannot move.
When pressure is applied to the inside of the tube, the sealed end of the tube will tend to straighten out, which will cause a small amount of movement at the sealed end of the tube.
When pressure is applied to the helix, the entire length of the tubing tries to open or unwind around the shaft, which causes the shaft to rotate.

A simple microfabricated pressure sensor   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
Sensors are sometimes designed using finite element analysis or other precision simulation to find membrane and resistor shapes and configurations which maximize this sensitivity.
The bridge is made of four piezoresistors located on the four edges of the sensor membrane, close to the edges where the stress is greatest when vertical pressure is applied to the center (or uniformly across) the membrane.
The capacitive sensor features a membrane ``bossed'' on the underside, which means the membrane itself forms a square, with the middle of the membrane being the same thickness as the rest of the wafer.

 Pressure-Sensor Assembly Technique
One issue in the development of the ultrathin data acquisition system was how to attach the MEMS pressure sensor to the circuit board in a manner which allowed the sensor's diaphragm to communicate with the ambient fluid while providing enough support for the chip to survive the grinding and polishing operations.
The circular diaphragm on the left side of the sensor is used to actively measure the ambient pressure, while the diaphragm on the right is used to compensate for changes in output due to temperature variations.
After the sensor is flip-chip attached to the circuit board, the die is underfilled to support the chip during the subsequent grinding and polishing operations.

The Manifold Pressure Sensor   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-23)
At a critical pressure P', the force from the coil spring exceeds the force on the diaphragm due to the pressure difference across it, and the diaphragm begins to move away from the part-load stop.
This stop engagement pressure is settable by adjusting the slope of the transition from part- to full-load operation, which is controlled by the adjustment of the outer screw.
The set-point pressure for for Po is 200 Torr (differential) and the set-point pressure for Pfle is 50 Torr (differential).

Pressure Sensor | Pressure Sensors by FUTEK – US Manufacturer
Metal foil Strain-gauge technology is one of the most common types of pressure sensors in the market and is also commonly known as Pressure sensors.
The metal foil strain gauge (which is bonded into the diaphragm of the sensor) is the medium which converts mechanical energy (Pressure applied to transducer) into electrical energy (using a Wheatstone bridge configuration) through the physical deformation of itself.
This deformation/deflection is manifested through an applied pressure to the transducer which introduces strain to the gauges, thus, producing an electrical resistance change proportional to the pressure.
