 Preston, Victoria
The railway journey to Melbourne had been improved by a direct connection between Collingwood and Melbourne (instead of a westerly loop to Spencer Street) in 1904, and a tram service to Melbourne was opened in 1920.
Stations were provided at Bell Street (now Bell), Preston (formerly Gowerville at Murray Road, where the town hall was to be built), Regent Street (now Regent) and at Reservoir.
Electricity reticulation was begun in 1914 and sewering of the Preston district was undertaken in 1909-15.

Lane, Henry, East Preston, is a native of Middlesex, England, and landed in Victoria in 1855.

The East Preston line was the one of the first to receive Z class trams as they entered service.
Melbourne SW2 class number 426 has already had its destination sign changed to City' as it waits to proceed to shunt at the Camberwell terminus in Burke Road, at Whitehorse Road in 1976.
Flemington Bridge, a station on the Upfield Rail line, was the original terminus of the privately built tram lines from Essendon in 1906.
